A huge departmental store chain is known for its great customer service and operating since 2005 had a knack for catering their customers. With 14 department stores, they have innovative layouts that differ by location, making the most of available space and local buying preferences.

The Challenge
As electronic transactions have become the norm, protecting personal information such as residential addresses, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and telephone numbers become all the more critical. They needed to put their customers at ease and protect the customers’ personal information
The approach
It was required to implement a data loss prevention solution to help strengthen information security and compliance and to increase awareness among their employees as to the importance of maintaining tight security around personal information. Together, Chavans and the customer decided to implement Symantec Data Loss Prevention-one of the most stable solution with the broadest functionality.
The Solution
The company used Endpoint Discover, one of the modules of Symantec Data Loss Prevention, to scan for customer information stored on endpoints and uncovered around 70 instances of potentially unsecured personal information on endpoints. To mitigate the risk of their customers’ personal information getting leaked, Endpoint Prevent was used to monitor and block customer information from being transferred. Symantec Data Loss Prevention gives the flexibility to set thresholds and change policies over time, in response to business needs.
