Enhancing performance with modern

One of India’s leading shipping companies maintains a smart, efficient network that ensures stable and reliable services. It is a global niche carrier offering distinct advantages to customers worldwide.

The Challenge

The customer’s container allocation confirmation process limited the company’s ability to accurately forecast the arrival of each ship at its destined harbour. The lengthy confirmation process, coupled with their inability to make business decisions based on real-time data, led to slower customer response times, lower revenues, and competitive disadvantage.

The approach

To resolve this challenge, we looked for a cloud-friendly solution that did not require a long-term and costly investment.

The Solution

The customer initiated solution development in the public cloud during the first three months, and then seamlessly migrated to an on-premises environment. We selected VMware Tanzu Application Service (TAS) for the customer as their main platform. Enabling customers to focus on developer productivity without ticketing or spending much time digesting new technology, TAS automated the preparation of developer code for running on any cloud in an automated environment.

The Future

Given the project’s success, the client is considering extending the deployment of TAS in developing other modern solutions. Also, the company is looking into big data technologies, artificial intelligence, decision-making, and blockchain applications to expand its existing applications and let technology drive the supply chain.

Blade Server

Blade servers are the latest servers. Slim and compact just like a blade, they slide vertically into a specially designed chassis and share certain elements of the hardware with other blade servers in the chassis, for higher efficiency and cost reduction. Rack Server

A rack server is positioned in a bay inside a rack and related equipment’s like storage, security, and network appliances are mounted above it saving data-centre floor space. Rack servers are typically general-purpose servers that support a broad range of applications and computing infrastructure.
It is easier to manage connections and maintain the system as all components of the system are located in the same place. Rack servers can be expanded with additional memory, storage, and processors. It also provides great flexibility since it enables you to install several servers in the same bay, one for each application or function, for example, email, professional software, storage, etc.

Tower Server

Tower Servers are low cost and can be customized and upgraded based on business needs as they come with minimal configuration. Tower servers can be configured as general-purpose servers, communication servers, web servers, or network servers that integrates using HTTP protocols. It also costs roughly the same as a desktop computer.
The advantages of a tower server lies not only in the fact that it is relatively compact but also in its ability to be used in work areas which are not specifically designed to accommodate servers. It is designed to be positioned on or underneath a desk; offers a basic level of performance; and costs roughly the same as a desktop computer.
